Room by Room...The "Great" Room...

Hello friends, and thank you for all of your sweet comments on my first post in the little tour of my house.  It's fun to have you all "over" thanks for stopping back :)

So this is where we left off after our little "Entry/Sitting Room" post...if you missed it and you'd like to peek back you can see that post HERE.

So if you're all ready...we'll head into the "Great Room"...and since there are tons of pictures, I'll keep the "chatter" to a minimum and let the pictures do the "talking".

The "Great" room...I've always struggled with that name...but the WIKIPEDIA definition said this...
"The term great room denotes a room space within an abode which combines the specific functions of several of the more traditional room spaces (e.g. the family room, the living room, the study, etc.) into a singular unified space. Great rooms are typically at or near the center of the house, feature raised ceilings, and have been common in American homes since the early 1990s."
So a "Great Room" it is :)

It was actually harder than I thought to photograph...so here's the big picture and than I'll take you around for a closer look at all of my many vignettes around this rather large open space.

I made this light out of an old empty radio box...you can see that post HERE on JunkMarket Style.

Ahhh...this is still the best seat in the house :)

A sign made by my friend Joan...we'll be sharing a booth (along with Larry of the Country Junk Sale) at the fall Flea Market Under Glass Event.

We "gussied up" these chippy architecure pieces for bookends.

Perfect...

These XL glass jars have been all over the place...sorry, I didn't iron my runner for you.  Does it make you feel better to know I would probably forget to do it for "real company" too???

Love them sitting on these rusty old saw blades..."one man's trash...", literally :)

And this door will lead you to my porch which I showed you HERE.

You might also remember this special hutch and little house from my Sentimental Junk Post way back when...as you can see, I've simplified quite a bit since then.  It's my goal to "simplify" my decorating...but as a life long collector, it's really hard for me!!!  Maybe some of you can relate?  Baby steps :)

We took down my great-grandfather's ski's and added this old screen door.

Chippy-licious...just how I like it :)

So that about covers it for the Great Room...hope I haven't lost you :)
We'll move on to the kitchen next...and it's so teeny-tiny it's almost not worth showing...but I will :)

Shedding Some Light...

It's so fun to see all the great projects starting out the new year.  We've been busy here...our first re-do for 2011 is our bedroom.  And I'll tell you, it's about time.  I'm sure you'll agree when I show you the before and after pics...when it's ready.  But since it's not quite ready for the "reveal" I thought I'd show you what I'm doing with a piece that lost it's spot in the redo.

This was a shelf that my husband built for me years ago...it's been up in our room covered with books and dust...you know how books "breed" dust right?  I decided to go for a cleaner look this round so out it came.  But I wasn't quite ready to part with it yet...and we're pretty much out of wall space...
Then I remembered one of many inspiring posts by "Funky Junk Donna".  I loved how she plopped those storage racks right in front of her windows in her Blogging Office...I bet you've seen it, but if not take a peek HERE.
So that's where it landed...in my Great Room.  Where we spend most of our time...playing, relaxing, dancing and creating.

And now I've been busy filling up the shelves with glassware full of junk goodies. Since most of my projects are done at my Dining Room table I figured if would be a great place to store my junky bobbles...

I guess it only makes sense, since I have little junk goodies stashed everywhere else...

Do you remember the "Sentimental Treasures" I keep in my "Honeymoon Hutch"?

Or how about my big ol' "Bowl O' Junk"?

I'm still wondering if it's too crowded...but I think I live with it here for a while and see how it feels :)

A little update...

A few months later...I ended up going a little bit "cleaner"...I love how the empty aqua glass fills the shelves while the sun has plenty of room to shine on through.

And since this little idea was literally inspired by Donna and her "authentic" style, I'm linking up with Amy over at Whisperwood Cottage for her Authentic Style Series featuring Donna and here very inspiring style.  Head on over and take a peek...

"Handy" Wreath Hooks

I found these chippy old handrail brackets a couple of weeks back. It was "love at first sight". My first thought was to use them as they were intended...just because they would look much cooler than the boring hardware we have holding our handrail now. But then I decided they would be better featured as handy hooks for a couple of wreaths in my living room.

Perfectly chippy...

Also fun year-round to feature artwork or mirrors in place of the wreaths.

I layered these wood pieces, just because. I love the "layered look"...clothes and junk ;)

And of course she needed her "accessories"...

And here you see one of the lovelies in a place of honor next to my Christmas tree. I think I'm almost done decorating...no, I'm done. I need to just stop or I'll be decorating until the big day!
