"Out Back"...Deck-orating...

Still "playing outside" here...
I showed you a little bit of what I was doing "out front" last weekend...if you missed it you can see that post HERE.

And then I showed you the OLD CRATE PLANTERS we made a few years ago...

As you can see from this picture...those are out back on the deck.  Well, that really started something...I've been fussing around on the deck ever since.

What do you think?  Kind of cozy?

My husband made that shelf out of old doors a few years ago.  The little vintage cooler comes in handy when we have parties.  Might as well have it out "looking cute" rather than stored in the shed :)

That's a plastic map that came out of an old Junior High class room.  My son talked me into buying it...and now I'm so glad I did!

He also made this table using leftover decking...I told you he was "handy" to have around!!
(I really had to "talk" him into hanging stuff on the siding...we ended up using thumb tacks.  So far so good!)

These crates will work great for stashing "extras" when we are entertaining!

I probably should have waited until we finished power washing to decorate huh?  Oh well...gotta go with it when you feel inspired :)

This deck steps down to the concrete patio with the VINTAGE HEADBOARD FENCE I showed you the other day...

Remember?

Well, I still haven't painted the chairs...but I got some new pillows.  Works for me...for now ;)

Well, guess I'll just keep plugging away out there!  Thanks for following along...I'll be back with more soon.  I've got a "tornado" of ideas floating around "up there"...like usual!  But now I need to go clean my bathrooms...don't suppose new pillows will help hide the mess in that room huh?

  1. Yes cozy. I left a comment on another blog today that seeing all of the patios and decks makes me realize I don't decorate my outdoor space near enough. Hope to change that this summer.

  21. Laurel, your deck is amazing! You have so many cool things out there and you have decorated it so beautifully. Love the crate planters. I was going to build some planters with wood I found, and the idea of giving them some height like this is perfect. Now if I could just find some of those stands. That will be a trick, but I will keep my eyes peeled for sure! The fence is the icing on the cake!

  24. Hey there Laurel!
I am crazy for that patio fence!! I have two similar headboards and I used to use them for trellises...they fell all the time though. Now I am going to try your husbands PVC idea and see what I can come up with. We are about to build a fence using some recycled boards from some horse stalls, maybe I'll work those headboards in there. Got some old window scenes I want to try to work in too...ideas, ideas, ideas! I do hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer! Best, Vicki

  26. I enjoy reading how others get to where they are at decorating. Like not finishing the pressure washing first. That is so me.

  27. Hi Laurel-- thanks for stopping by Corn!
I love this backyard area. What is not to love about those metal crates? They are so versatile. I own one, though it isn't as old, the bottom of mine is made of some type of MOON-ROCKHARD-PLASTIC! seriously, that thing has taken a beating!
The other thing is, I love your deck... and would love a metal table with enough seats for guests; right now I have plastic Dollar store tables... they're ok in a pinch, but am on the look out for a metal set. Preferably vintage.
Then that bed gate! Oh my sweet goodness! I've liked that since you posted about it. So wonderful. I have a couple of bed frames around my place, but nothing that beautiful!

Love, your yard! I'm planning my next family picknick there, can you seat 40?! :)
