A "Big Girl" Bed Canopy/Headboard...

Chipping with Charm: Ladder Bed Canopy...http://chippingwithcharm.blogspot.com/

Does every little girl dream of a Canopy Bed?  I know I did...

Chipping with Charm: Ladder Bed Canopy...http://chippingwithcharm.blogspot.com/

Somewhere along the way I grew out of "pink and frilly" and switched over to "neutral and junky"...but either way I am totally "in love" with my new ladder bed "canopy"!!
Chipping with Charm: Ladder Bed Canopy...http://chippingwithcharm.blogspot.com/
My engineer hubby very securely attached these painted metal braces to the wall above the bed...I repeat, VERY securely.
(And we "sternly" warned the kiddos about practicing their "monkey bar" moves while we're not looking...but if they decide to be "sneaky little monkeys", my husband assures me they won't be able to get that thing down...but sshhhh, don't tell them that ;)

And then he attached this old rustic ladder to the braces....and I draped these painters drop cloths over the ladder rungs...just like that, a "Big girl" junky canopy...sigh...did I say I love it???  I do!!

And of course you need something special on the wall...inspired by a very special song...
(Click the link above to hear the song over on You Tube :))
My mom used to listen to Randy Travis over and over in the car when I was a little girl...and I can still hear her singing along to that sweet song.  I used to listen carefully and know that I was going to hold out for "that" kind of love...nothing less would do...

I'm happy to report...I found it...and the fact that he was sweet enough to hang an old ladder above our bed without questioning it...just proves it :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!!

    2. Of course...we just screwed the empty window frame right to the wall...then I used stamps and stencils to put the letters onto indiviual book pages with gray acrylic paint...and hung them right on the wall with wooden push pins I bought at Walmart...quick and easy!! Thanks for asking Crystal!!

    3. Where can I find the ladder you used

      Delete
    4. The ladder is actually one that had been in my husband's family for years. We cut it down to 7 feet...sorry, I know that doesn't help much. Maybe you could try a local flea market or junk sale?? Good luck!

  39. Hi, I just found your blog, and that is just too cool!! Love that idea! And, here I was just asking my husband the other day if he could save out the next old ladder that comes his way, that they may be throwing out at work. And, no, he's not a carpenter, he's a technician, lol!

Who says a ladder has to be just a ladder?!

By the way, I'm your newest follower, yay! Would be so appreciative if you would reciprocate and follow back! Thanks so much, and hope you're having a great day!

  46. I love this idea but why didn't you drape the curtains over the hardware so it doesn't show? It would still have that rustic look but be so much neater.

    1. Hi, thanks...I actually left the hardware exposed on purpose. I really like the fun and unexpected "junky" look of those cream painted braces...just my style :)

  47. neat idea! I have a bigger ladder than that. I would have to cut it down to fit. But my husband probably wouldn't like it, because he couldn't reach his night stand or see the clock.

  50. Inspired by this post ( Pinterest pin) I dug the old ladder from out back that "I was saving for something" and we did this!! I used painters drop clothes too and I LOVE it. I painted two little lanterns to put on it and will be adding twinkle lights too. Just need the perfect "artwork" for behind the bed. Thanks for the inspiration.. I LOVE my junky princess canopy too!!
