Grubby Box of Clock Stuff...

So I happened upon this box of grubby old clocks and parts at a garage sale the other day for $10.

Four old cool looking clocks...

...this cool black clock face...

...and other assorted parts and pieces.

I almost didn't buy it...

When it comes to garage sales, I'm a "bargain hunter" but I hate negotiating...I need my hubby along for that.  So if the price is higher than I want to spend I usually just pass...but this time I actually REALLY wanted it...so I tried...no go.  So I said "thanks anyway" and walked away...as far as my car...and then my son said "Why didn't you buy it mom?  Don't you have $10 in your pocket?".  I did...I was being stubborn. I went back and bought it with a smile on my face...and no regrets.  I'll have fun with these little grubby goodies :)

So how 'bout you?  Would you have bought it for $10?  And how do you feel about negotiating?  Fun or stressful?

Joining in on the fun again over at...

  1. I would have to say I'm not very good with negotiating. I watched that show Picker Sisters on Lifetime last night for the first time. And I was thinking how I didn't envy their having to negotiate.

  3. Terrible at negotiating. . makes me nervous - super fun clocks, I love them! I would have paid ten for sure.

  4. You got some great pieces! I used to not negotiate but each time I try it gets easier. I think you got them for a steal, considering what I just paid for several off of ebay and etsy. Lots of things you can do with them.

  5. It sure sounds like a great deal. I used to thrift with my aunt, and she would always try to negotiate a lower price. All they can say is NO. But many times she would buy it anyway. So I think it is a lesson on trying, but if you really want it, go ahead and get it. You know if you pass, you will regret it later ;-)

  6. I always say, "What's the best you can do on this?" What they gonna do eat you? Sometimes they come down, sometimes not, but most times they do. Negotiating is fun, and most times they don't really know a good price anyway...me either, but I know my range. I would have bought the clocks...$10 is more than I usually pay at a yard sale, but these were worth that. Can't wait to see what you create! Be sweet!

  7. I would have bought those in a heartbeat! You got a good deal on those for sure. As far as negotiating....I will at flea markets but not at garage sales. I don't know why I will at one and not at the other. Anyway, I'm glad you bought the clocks, you won't regret it.

  8. I would have bought them, yes and I am not a good negotiator. I wish I was, but it embarrasses me to do it.
I think you got a great bargain!

  9. Are you kidding?!? That's a score! If you found nothing else that day, you'd have still done well!!! Would I have bought it - without hesitation!

As for the negotiating.....I HATE that and like you I will have my husband do it if possible. And I have to really want something bad if I end up negotiating. I set a price in my mind of what I would pay for it (obviously ALWAYS within reason) and then ask. If I get it, I'm ecstatic. If not, if wasn't meant to come home with me.

You did great on this box!

  11. Those are awesome! I would have been hesitant. I'm not much of a negotiator, that's when I use hubby. Usually if I'm buying more than 1 thing I will say, how much if I buy this and this, sometimes they just add it up with no deal, or they will say a dollar or two less than what the original total would have been.

  12. In a heart beat I would have bought it. When I negotiate I use this magic phrase that does not seem to irritate or offend anyone. "Is $10.00 your best price" That's it, easy to say...I think?

  13. Girl, I would have snatched that box up and not given it another thought. But like you, I despise negotiating. I'll ask, but I don't like it. Lisa~

  16. Love all of your clocks! Yes, I definitely would've bought them. Sometimes negotiating can be tricky... but it is always worth a shot. Worst-case you end up paying their asking price... :)

  20. Oh yes! I probably would have asked if they would take $8, but I would have wanted to take it home for $10 if necessary...good stuff!!

  21. Oh, I love the clocks! I wish I had found them first. ha ha ha I definitely would have bought them at that price. I would probably have asked if they would take $7 for them but I would have paid the full $10 if they wouldn't have come down. Great find!

  22. I definitely love those old clocks and I don't think $10 is too much - you'll SO use them I'm certain. But I'm with you on negotiating, it's not second nature (or even third nature). Thank you for dropping by earlier and leaving such a nice comment - really made my day :) xo, Diane

  23. Absolutely would have asked for a lower price, but bought it. You got your money's worth. Not only the 4 clocks but all those parts to use. I love that box of clocks. Good for you.

  24. Aren't you happy that your son gave you a little encouragment to go back for this box of clocks and parts? With your ingenuity, you will come of with all sots of projects for them!

  25. i'm so glad that you went back and bought the clocks as they are so unique and full of vintage goodness! i have learned from ny husband to negotiate. it's so easy to ask, "what's your best price?" or "would you take, $...?" i know how you feel though, it took me a while to get over my hesitations.
you paid less than $3 for each clock plus all those extra parts to junkify with! good deal.

  26. Love the old clocks and parts. I would have paid that for them. I love old clocks and they are so hard to find. I am sure you will enjoy displaying them and be creative with the parts.
