I admit it...I have a problem...I'm a "fussy" decorator. I just can't leave well enough alone. I fuss and fuss until I've wasted 2 days on one area!
Here's how my fireplace looked yesterday...
"Good enough" but...
Then I remembered these little numbered "whatchamacallit's" I got at Haupt Antiek last week. I decided a garland would be nice...
No hooks? That's ok...a couple of rusty goodies will do the trick here...
And here.
And then I thought the sock stretcher "thingy" could use a little "Love".
And here's how it looks today. Too much? Oh well...it's Christmas!!! I'll work on "simplifying" my decorating the rest of the year :)
Here's a peek at a few of the other "fussy" details...
Bed spring tree toppers...I "borrowed" this idea from my friend Traci...cute right?
A fish bowl full of styrofoam "snowballs" and a little "joy".
And yet another simple wreath...made from a metal vent cover and a sweet little button ornament I received many years ago from my sister-in-law Heidi. Very special...
So how about you? Are you a "fusser" too?
Well, I think I'll move on to my centerpiece now...see you in a couple days ;)

Blessings,
Very pretty mantel! I tend to be a fussy decorator also. I have found recently, however, that when I am done with something, I take one thing off and see if it looks better. Normally, for me it does look better.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to do that with jewelry also.
I'm definitely a fusser! The problem is, I can fuss over one little spot in my house, while the rest of the house is a disaster.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about taking photos for my blog - I can look at just the cleaned, fussed-over spots and not see the mess!
Blessings,
Angie @ Knick of Time Interiors
By the way, good luck in the Canvas Photo Print drawing - thanks for entering!
Hello, I'm Vicki, and I'm a fusser. One of the first steps to recovery is admitting the problem, right? I tend to pull all of my decorating stuff out and scatter it allover just to work on one spot for hours, days or in the case of my dining table...weeks. I shift, remove and then put back...argggh! It is sooo much fun though!!! Love your mantle. those numbered whatchamacallits are dreamy! Enjoy this time!
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fusser - once I'm done - but I do tend to put a lot in a vignette. So in that way I'm fussy! But if you're having fun - who cares? Merry Christmas to you.
ReplyDeleteYour mantel is just lovely. I am kindof a fussy decorator. I guess I am ~ add a little of this and that, stand back and add more ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect, Laural! You have so many different elements yet, it all works together. I move my pieces around constantly, each year I get a different feeling about my mantel and it changes a lot from the year before!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting my blog! Then I get to discover yours. :) I love your style and creations, so pretty! Your mantel looks perfect for the season. And I love those wreaths you create out of 'junk' circles. The vent cover is wonderful!

Fussy works for you. Your fireplace is so wintery, and just perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour mantle is amazing!!! I am completely in love with it :)
ReplyDeleteYou are always so uniquely creative, Lauren! Love the crystal with the springs, the & crumpled music garland. It's all adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking this creative post to Potpourri Friday!
Hi Laurel...
ReplyDeleteI just laughed when I read your post, my friend! I sooo know where you are at with all the fussing. I don't think that I ever stop...hehe! But...all of your fussing sure paid off! Your Christmas mantel is AWESOME!!! I love each and every detail...like the wreath that you made out of the stove pipe vent and pretty buttons! Ohhh...and I love, love, LOVE how you draped the pretty paper chain garland in and out of the trees and over your mantel! Soooo very pretty, my friend! Thank you for sharing your beautiful Christmas with us!
Warmest Christmas Wishes,
Chari
LOL Laurel! I am so with you on the "fussing"! I'm in a constant state of tweaking and my hubby always says,"didn't you already finish that?" :-) I think your mantel is just absolutely beautiful though and no more fussing is needed on it! It is full of so many lovely details and they are all layered together so nicely. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Inspiration Friday this week!

I'm right there with ya seesta!
ReplyDeleteI drive myself bonkers messin' with things. Step back, look, re-adjust...
Like the queen size mattress I tore apart. I must have spent eight hours slicing & cutting layer after layer of padding & wires just to salvage the metal.
Now I have a ton of bed springs just waiting for a brilliant idea.
I've been tinkering with wine bottles, center pieces & runners... but I just can't seem to create that show stopping idea.
So... I'll tinker on and off with them until one day... I can step back and say "now THATS what I'm talking about!"
Your mantel is very festive and upbeat. Love it!!
Love your Mantel! I do the same thing...trying to get it just right! I'm your newest follower from the at the picket face party. If you get a chance, I'd love you to stop by my blog & maybe follow along too!

No such thing as "too much" when it comes to Christmas! It looks great! I am a "fusser" too, it takes me forever to get a look I like, and no one is allowed to help because they will do it all wrong!
ReplyDeleteHave a Merry Christmas!

Being fuzzy isn't a bad thing. It means you have standards in your creativity and art.
ReplyDeletePaper chairs? Interesting ...... but where?
